Go Where Your Energy Is Positive And Make Something Totally New
I had taken on a project that I was beginning to really feel was beyond my own personal resources to accomplish. I had asked a friend and colleague if I could organize a workshop within the New England area that he would teach.
I decided to call my friend and talk about it, not exactly knowing my objective for the conversation but trusting my intuition. Looking for approval is deeply seated in me, and at the time it's pretty much all I cared about. But I'm happy I had the courage to call, mainly because I received a fantastic gift that continues to support me.
The Gift
My friend answered the phone, we exchanged pleasantries, and I began. He listened. I believe he understood right away what was happening, and right after a pause from me said just a few words. "Judy, go exactly where your power is strong."
Yes. It made sense. And it was truly simple. Where was my energy strong? Not for this project at this point. It was taking my concentration away from what I actually wanted to do, design and implement in my own workshops.
That is exactly where my energy was powerful. That's what I wanted to be doing, planning and thinking about. All at once everything fell into place.
It felt precisely like it does on the mat, doing Aikido, a martial art that has come to be a metaphor for me in challenging circumstances.
When you try to force the technique, it's all strain and stress and struggle, and you can wind up getting hurt or hurting your companion. But whenever you move from center and then follow your ki (life energy), the project is effortless.
As I followed my ki, I knew I would stop the process I had begun, and that it was the right thing to do. Forcing the problem would have strained my resources and, ultimately perhaps, the relationship. My buddy understood before I did that the timing wasn't right.
Why am I struggling? Exactly where is my energy strong? These are living concerns. Whenever you feel yourself resisting something, let these questions be your guide. You'll learn you have a lot more power than you think.
